This campaign reached its goal on May 3, 2017 11:45 AM.
North Shore CDC is a Registered 501(c)(3), Tax ID 04-2686893.
THANK YOU SALEM! Over 300 generous donors have contributed to Espacio so far, and we have exceeded our initial goal of raising $30,000! While our campaign goal has been reached, we are adding a stretch goal to get to $40,000 – any excess funds beyond what it takes to build out Espacio will support North Shore CDC’s street art initiative in the Point neighborhood. We will be able to add new street art on other buildings of ours in the Point this summer with that much more support. These new murals will achieve the same goals as Espacio – to deeply engage Point residents and to create opportunities within the Point for residents of the broader community to come visit.
North Shore Community Development Coalition’s mission is to invest in neighborhoods to create thriving communities. We are a regional community development organization working in six cities on the North Shore: Salem, Beverly, Peabody, Gloucester, Lynn and Merrimac.
In 2017, North Shore CDC will construct a dynamic, new 2,000+ square foot programming space within a newly-renovated affordable housing development on Congress Street, a main commercial corridor in The Point neighborhood in Salem. The Point is a vibrant, ethnically-diverse community that has long been a settlement destination for newcomers and a historically low-income and predominately immigrant neighborhood. Congress Street is an area that has been identified as in need of investment through a citywide comprehensive community planning process called The Point Vision and Action Plan in 2013-2020.
This new space is part of a larger project that includes the renovation of 8 formerly run-down buildings in the neighborhood and which will be completed in the summer of 2017. A grand opening of the project and the community program space is scheduled for summer 2017.
North Shore CDC seeks to raise $30K and a matching grant from MassDevelopment for $30K for a total of $60K, to aid with the capital expenses incurred in creating a dynamic and flexible community space, designed to accommodate the needs of the residents of The Point neighborhood. This new program space is an opportunity to leverage a dynamic new physical space and to create strategic programming around basic needs and services, and business, educational, and recreational activities, towards two objectives:
The programming to be offered will be free of charge to the residents of all ages, and neighborhoods from Salem, and will include the following:

As a result, residents declared a need for a community space to gather not only socially but also to hold community meetings and to house needed social services for the residents.
There is currently no community space in this area, and, while there are a couple of meeting rooms which are available to the community during limited times, they do not have amenities such as a kitchen facility, much less direct programming.
This space represents a unique opportunity to address the following concerns and needs particularly in The Point neighborhood but affecting Salem as a whole:
• A lack of opportunities for meaningful interaction between residents of the Point neighborhood and other Salem residents and visitors to the community.
• Public and private sector partners in Salem have not always successfully engaged Point residents, which results in a disconnection of the neighborhood from significant opportunities which, if otherwise accessed, would provide greater economic opportunity as well as social inclusion.
A beautiful new program space which may be utilized by numerous program partners will;
We only have 60 days to raise the funds for this program and EVERY DOLLAR COUNTS! If we can raise $30,000 by midnight on MAY 2nd, we will receive a $30,000 grant from MassDevelopment to complete the Community Space.
Make a donation to the campaign, small or large. Every $5, $10, $25, $50, $100, $500, $1,000 or more will make this campaign a success!

Dear Espacio Donors!
I would like to take this time to thank you for making a dream a reality for our Community Center on Congress Street, "Espacio". If you haven't been in there yet, please feel free to contact me, firstname.lastname@example.org and I would love to set up a time where we could meet and I could show you all of the amazing things that your dollars went toward. Thank you so much for making a difference in the Point Neighborhood and creating a beautiful space that has been wanted by the community for years!
I also wanted to take the time to ask you to support our current Patronicity campaign for the Punto Urban Art Museum. Last year, we launched a world-class open air museum in Salem's Point neighborhood which breaks down historic barriers with public art. Through the installation of stunning, world-class art, we want kids raised in the Point to grow up with pride in their community, and the people of Greater Salem to have a reason to visit and discover the vibrant neighborhood and businesses that we know and love.
We would love it if you could be part of the movement with us! Here is the link:
